The Programs

Summer Language School

Objective:

To improve the use of the Spanish language and increase knowledge of Latin American Culture.

This program is designed for university students whose field of study is related to Modern Languages, International Studies, Latin American Studies, Anthropology and similar areas.

Programming

A four week course consisting of 90 effective hours of class time divided into two modules of 45 hours each.

Course Offerings

45 hours.

Spanish as a Second Language Perfection and Practice
45 hours.
Introduction to Mayan culture

Culture

The program also includes a cultural aspect which enables participants to acquire a better understanding of the Mexican people:

  • 4 excursions: Visits to two different spectacular Mayan ruin sites, a visit to a Mayan village and a trip to the port city of Celestun, winter home to hundreds of flamingos
  • Lunch at a typical Hacienda
  • 4 Salsa classes
  • A pizza party with local students
  • Attendance to classes at the Universidad del Mayab
  • Housing with Mexican families will enhance the total immersion experience. 3 meals per day with the host family are included.
  • Transportation to and from the university is also included.

Participants will have their afternoons free in order to attend special events offered by the State and Municipal governments and to explore the beautiful, colonial city of Merida.

Learn How to do business in Mexico

Objective:

To acquire an overview of the cultural, financial and legal aspects involved in doing business in Mexico, especially in Yucatan, in order to improve the process of investing in Mexico.

This seminar is designed for university students whose field of study is related to international business or practicing professionals interested in investment opportunities.
Programming

This seminar is a three week course consisting of 45 effective hours of class time divided into three modules of 15 hours each.

Job Shadowing

Participants will experience Job Shadowing by visiting three local businesses. These professional visits can include:

  • A tour of the workplace/organization
  • Introduction to colleagues and other professionals
  • Organizational meetings, if appropriate
  • Informational interviews related to the profession, work setting, knowledge and skill requirements and current trends in the field, etc.
  • Insights and information from both parties regarding the organization, etc.
  • Discussion of practices, policies, challenges, goals, etc.

Job Shadowing goes beyond informational interviewing by providing participants with an opportunity to observe activities within an organization. Shadowing can provide the participant with the opportunity to observe physical work setting(s), clients/customers, co-workers and other contact people inside and outside of the organization, applications of policies and/or procedures, and in general begin to appreciate the interrelated activities, goals, and concerns that make up a given organization.
